FAQ
menstrual disc
Feminy Reusable Disc can be safely worn for up to 12 hours. This is the maximum continuous wear time recommended by FDA regulations for menstrual discs.
You must remove, empty, and clean your disc at least every 10–12 hours. Use warm water and a mild soap (or a dedicated cleanser) before reinserting.
If you have a heavy period, you may need to empty the disc more frequently than every 12 hours. However, menstrual discs typically hold 4–6 times more than a tampon or pad, so you can still enjoy longer wear time compared to other products.
Please always use as directed.
Yes! Feminy Reusable Discs have undergone third-party laboratory testing. We can confirm they contain no lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, or PFAS (forever chemicals).
You deserve a safe, non-toxic, and comfortable period. With Feminy, you can rest assured.
Yes. Medical grade silicone refers to silicone and any coloring agents that have been tested to be safe for implantation in the human body for several weeks.
This means these materials have undergone rigorous safety testing under conditions far beyond normal daily use. With Feminy Reusable Disc, you are using a material that meets high biocompatibility standards.
It is possible if you have a very heavy and forceful flow. In most cases, however, very little to no blood will drip onto your hands during the short time it takes to wash or remove your disc.
Tips for a clean removal:
- Keep the disc level and pull it out slowly.
- If you’re using a disc for the first time, try removing it in the shower. The warm water helps you relax and makes any mess a non-issue.
- To remove over a toilet, use your pelvic floor muscles to partially empty the disc before taking it out (this is called hands-free emptying). Then remove the disc while staying seated – any drips will fall directly into the toilet.
- For easy cleanup on the go, keep gentle wipes or disposal pouches handy.
If you do find a small amount of blood on your fingers, simply rinse or wipe them. With a little practice, you can keep everything clean and mess-free.
Tension andYes, you can have both oral and penetrative sex while wearing your disc. In fact, many people use a menstrual disc specifically for “mess-free” period sex. Just be sure to empty your disc beforehand. dryness are the biggest hurdles.
Will your partner feel it?
With proper insertion, neither you nor your partner should be able to feel the disc during sex. However, there are a few exceptions:
- If your partner (or a toy) is especially large, one or both of you may occasionally notice the rim.
- If you can easily feel the disc yourself, or if it feels like it’s in the way, you may need to reposition it.
Tips for a better experience:
- Try different positions – missionary or doggy style are often the best for avoiding contact with the disc.
- Once you get comfortable, feel free to explore other positions.
If you continue to have issues, please reach out to us. We’re always happy to help you make the disc work for your body.
First, don’t panic! A menstrual disc cannot get “lost” inside your body. Your vagina is a closed space (the cervix blocks the top), so the disc is always within reach.
Try these steps:
- Relax your body – Take a few deep breaths. Try box breathing: breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, out for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds. Repeat. Relaxed pelvic floor muscles make removal much easier.
- Bear down gently – Insert a clean finger into the vagina while gently pushing down with your pelvic floor muscles (like you’re trying to push something out). This often moves the disc within reach.
- Change your position –
- Low squat (feet wider than hips, buttocks near the floor)
- On the toilet with feet on a small stool
- Lying on your bed
- One leg propped up while standing
The shower is a great place to practice – warm water helps you relax and any mess is contained.
- If you’ve just had sex with the disc in – Wait at least 15 minutes. During arousal, the vaginal canal can temporarily lengthen, making the disc harder to reach. Give your body time to return to its normal state.
- Still stuck? – Take a 30–60 minute break. Relax, walk around, then try again. Do not use any foreign objects (tweezers, tools, etc.) to remove the disc, as this could cause injury.
If you continue to have difficulty, please contact us. You can also ask a partner or friend for help, or reach out to a healthcare provider. We’re here to support you.
Yes, most likely.
When we say “you shouldn’t be able to feel your menstrual disc,” we mean you shouldn’t feel it during your normal daily activities (walking, sitting, exercising, etc.). It is completely normal to be able to feel the disc when you intentionally insert a finger to check on it.
How to know it’s inserted correctly:
- You feel comfortable (no pain or pressure)
- You are not experiencing leakage (except for normal auto-dumping when using the bathroom)
- The disc feels secure, with the back of the disc hooked behind your cervix and the front rim tucked behind your pubic bone
If these are true, your disc is in correctly — even if you can feel it with your finger.
Note on bathroom leakage: Seeing a little blood in the toilet when you use the restroom is normal. This is called “hands-free emptying” and does not mean your disc is inserted incorrectly.
No, absolutely not.
Feminy Reusable Disc will not cause period blood to go back up into your uterus — not during sex, not during intense workouts, not while swimming or doing yoga, not ever.
Why not?
Your cervix acts as a natural one-way door. It is designed to be “exit only” — meaning blood and other fluids can flow out of the uterus, but they cannot flow back in.
Period products, including menstrual discs, have never been associated with retrograde menstruation (the backward flow of menstrual blood). You can wear your Feminy Disc with complete confidence.
If you have any pelvic pain or unusual period symptoms — regardless of whether you use a disc — please reach out to a healthcare provider or Ob/Gyn for personalized advice.
Yes, most likely — but it depends on your unique anatomy.
No two tilted uteruses are tilted in exactly the same way. Feminy Reusable Disc is designed to fit most bodies, and many people with a tilted uterus use discs successfully.
How to know if it works for you:
- As long as the disc is able to hook securely behind your cervix (with the basin below the cervix to catch the blood), you should be good to go.
- You may need to experiment with different insertion angles or techniques to find what works best for your body.
What if it doesn’t work?
There is a small percentage of people for whom a disc may not create a good seal due to the angle of their uterus. If you try and find that a disc isn’t comfortable or leaks consistently, you may prefer a different type of period product.
When in doubt — talk to your healthcare provider or gynecologist. They can help you understand your unique anatomy and what might work best for you.
Yes — absolutely. You can pee, poop, or do whatever you need to do while wearing your disc. It will stay out of the way and not interfere with normal bodily functions.
What to expect:
When you use the bathroom, you naturally relax your pelvic floor muscles. This can temporarily push the front rim of your disc out from behind your pubic bone, allowing a small amount of fluid to release into the toilet.
This is completely normal — it’s called “hands-free emptying” (or auto-dumping). It doesn’t mean your disc is inserted incorrectly.
What to do after:
Simply insert a clean finger and gently tuck the front rim of your disc back behind your pubic bone. Then you’re all set to continue with your day.
Quick tip: After pooping, it’s a good idea to check that your disc is still in proper position, just in case any bearing down moved it slightly.
Yes — absolutely! Feminy Reusable Disc is designed to move with you, no matter how active you are.
Exercise & running:
You can squat, lift weights, run a 5K, do hot yoga, or any other workout without worrying about leaks or irritation. Many fitness enthusiasts and athletes rely on discs for comfortable, all-day wear.
Swimming & bathing:
Yes — you can swim, take a bath, or soak in a hot tub with your disc in. Most menstrual discs have no strings or external parts, so nothing hangs out. Some people may notice a small amount of water getting into the disc during water activities (due to muscle movement), but this won’t cause any issues and can be easily emptied afterward.
Scuba diving:
While we can’t speak from personal experience, we have heard from multiple users who have gone scuba diving (under high pressure) or taken scuba lessons while wearing their disc — with no problems reported.
In short: Whether you’re crushing a workout, swimming laps, or diving deep, your Feminy Disc has you covered.
The thumb trick is a helpful technique for inserting your Feminy Reusable Disc — and it’s a favorite tip among many users.
How to do it:
- Pinch the disc firmly between your thumb and fingers.
- Insert the disc downward and backward into the vaginal canal, aiming toward your tailbone.
- Once you can no longer keep the disc pinched, place your thumb on the rim and continue pushing the disc all the way back until the front rim tucks just behind your pubic bone.
- You may then use another finger to gently pull and tuck the rim securely behind your pubic bone. This final step is important for keeping the disc in place and preventing leaks.
Why use your thumb?
Many users find that their thumb naturally moves in the correct direction and provides more stability than an index finger. The thumb trick helps you get the disc into the right position — down and back — with better control.
Hands-free emptying (also called auto-dumping) is one of the most convenient features of a menstrual disc. It allows you to partially empty your disc during the day without removing it from your body.
How does it work?
While sitting on the toilet, you simply relax and gently bear down with your pelvic floor muscles (similar to the motion of having a bowel movement). This action temporarily pops the front rim of the disc out from behind your pubic bone, allowing a small amount of blood to release into the toilet.
What to do after:
Use a clean finger to tuck the front rim of your disc back behind your pubic bone. That’s it — your disc is now less full and securely back in place.
Why is this useful?
On a heavy flow day, you can empty your disc every time you use the bathroom without having to fully remove, wash, or reinsert it. Many users find that with this technique, a single disc can last the full 12-hour wear time — even on heavier days.
A note of caution:
While many users love auto-dumping, you should bear down gently, not with forceful or prolonged effort, as excessive straining is not recommended for pelvic floor health. Listen to your body, and if you have any concerns, consult with your healthcare provider.
First, don’t stress — this is completely normal, and actually a feature we love!
Seeing a little blood in the toilet or on your toilet paper when you pee or poop is not a sign of a problem. Here’s what’s happening:
When you use the bathroom, you naturally relax your pelvic floor muscles. This can cause the front rim of your disc to slide down slightly from behind your pubic bone, allowing a small amount of fluid to release into the toilet. Once you’re done, the disc typically settles back — or you can gently tuck it back into place with a clean finger.
This is called hands-free emptying (or auto-dumping).
It’s actually a helpful feature, not a leak. By intentionally relaxing your pelvic floor muscles while on the toilet, you can partially empty your disc without removing it. This helps your disc last the full 12 hours — even on your heaviest days.
What to do after:
Simply use a clean finger to tuck the front rim back behind your pubic bone, or do a gentle Kegel to pull it back into place. Then you’re good to go!
All menstrual discs — whether reusable or disposable — share the same basic design: they sit in the vaginal fornix (the widest part of the vaginal canal, just beneath your cervix) and are held in place by your pubic bone. They collect rather than absorb period blood, offer up to 12 hours of wear, and can be worn during mess-free period sex.
Here’s how Feminy Reusable Disc is different:
| Feature | Feminy Reusable Disc | Typical Disposable Discs |
| Material | 100% medical-grade silicone | Medical-grade polymer (plastic-based) |
| Lifespan | 2+ years (reusable) | Single use only |
| Cleaning | Wash with mild soap after each use, boil between cycles | Dispose after each use |
| Eco-impact | Low waste | Single-use waste |
Why choose Feminy Reusable Disc?
Cost-effective: One disc lasts for years, saving you money over time.
Eco-friendly: Less waste going to landfills compared to disposable options.
Body-safe material: Medical-grade silicone is hypoallergenic, won’t host toxic bacteria, and won’t alter your vaginal pH.
Same great performance: Holds more than tampons or pads, offers 12-hour protection, and can be worn during sex, swimming, exercise, and more.
Which one is right for you?
If you want a zero-waste, long-term investment that you can use cycle after cycle, Feminy Reusable Disc is the perfect choice. If you prefer the convenience of single-use products (for travel, backup, or personal preference), disposable discs are also available from various brands.
Both menstrual discs and cups offer many benefits over traditional period products: they can be worn for up to 12 hours, have higher capacity, produce less waste, don’t cause dryness or irritation, and are made with body-safe materials that won’t disrupt your natural pH.
Here are the key differences:
| Feature | Menstrual Disc (Feminy Reusable Disc) | Menstrual Cup |
| Wear location | Vaginal fornix (widest part, just below the cervix) | Vaginal canal (same area as a tampon) |
| How it stays in place | Tucked behind the pubic bone (no suction) | Held by suction against the vaginal walls |
| Shape | Flat, flexible, wider diameter | Bell-shaped, narrower |
| Removal | Hook finger under the rim and pull out | Must break the suction seal first |
| Sex while wearing | Yes — can be worn during penetrative sex | No — must be removed before sex |
| Reusability | 100% reusable (medical-grade silicone) | Always reusable (usually silicone) |
Why choose a disc over a cup?
No suction — some users find discs more comfortable, with less cramping or pressure.
Mess-free period sex — discs can be worn during penetrative sex; cups cannot.
Easier removal — no need to break a suction seal; simply hook and pull.
Higher capacity in a lower-profile design — discs hold as much as or more than most cups.
Why choose a cup over a disc?
Some users prefer the familiar “tampon-like” placement in the vaginal canal.
Cups are available in multiple sizes for different anatomy needs (discs typically come in one size designed to fit most bodies).
Personal preference — both are excellent options, and it often comes down to what feels best for you.
The bottom line:
Both discs and cups are safe, reusable, eco-friendly alternatives to tampons and pads. Feminy Reusable Disc offers the unique benefits of no suction, sex-friendly wear, and easy removal. If you’re curious, why not try both and see which one you prefer?
Yes, absolutely! We know it sounds hard to imagine — how can you wear a disc and have sex at the same time? But it’s true, and it’s one of the most loved benefits of using a disc.
How does it work?
During arousal and intercourse, the vagina expands and lengthens. The disc sits at the back of the vaginal canal (in the fornix, just below the cervix). As you become aroused and during penetration, the disc naturally moves out of the way — so it doesn’t get in the way or come out.
What will you and your partner feel?
A properly inserted disc should be comfortable for both of you — for all types of sex, from penetrative to oral.
You or your partner might occasionally notice the rim, but there should be no pain or irritation.
How much you feel the disc depends on your position, your anatomy, and your partner’s anatomy.
An unexpected bonus?
Some users report stronger orgasms while wearing a disc! This may be because the disc gently contacts the cervix during intercourse, adding extra stimulation.
Important note:
Only menstrual discs (like Feminy Reusable Disc) can be worn during penetrative sex. If you use a menstrual cup, you must remove it beforehand
How to insert your disc:
- Wash your hands – Always wash your hands before insertion and removal. Also wash your Feminy Reusable Disc with warm water and a mild cleanser.
- Find a comfortable position – Some sit on the toilet, some stand with one leg elevated, some do a full squat. Experiment until you find what works best for you.
- Pinch and insert – Pinch the disc in half and begin inserting it into the vaginal canal. Make sure you push the edge that goes in first down and back (toward your tailbone) so that it sits at an angle and fully covers the cervix. Down and back is key! If using Feminy Reusable Disc, insert it notch-side first.
- Tuck the rim behind your pubic bone – Push the front rim up past your pubic bone as far as it can go. Think of bringing the front rim toward your belly button so the front of the disc sits higher than the back.
- You shouldn’t feel the disc – If you can still feel it inside, remove it and try again. When you’re first starting out, know that it’s normal to need a few tries before you’ve mastered insertion.
How to remove your disc
- Relax – Making sure your muscles aren’t tense will help you remove your disc swiftly and comfortably. Take a couple of deep breaths. You’ve got this!
- Bear down gently – While sitting on the toilet or standing in the shower, gently bear down with your pelvic floor muscles (similar to the feeling of pooping — don’t worry, you won’t actually poop). This will help pop the disc out from behind your pubic bone, making it easier to reach.
- Hook and pull – With a clean finger, hook the rim of the disc in a “come hither” motion and pull it out gently. Be sure to keep the disc horizontal (parallel to the floor) to prevent any spills.
- Empty and clean – Empty the contents into the toilet or shower. Rinse with cold water, then wash thoroughly with warm water and a mild soap or cleanser. Air dry and store in its pouch until next use.
A note of encouragement
Know that it’s normal to take a couple of cycles before you’ve mastered disc insertion and removal! Every body is different. You might even find that the position of your cervix — which changes almost daily — affects your insertion angle. The more comfortable you get with your body and with the disc, the easier it will be.
Nope! A menstrual disc won’t interfere with your body’s production of natural lubrication in the vagina.
Natural lubricants come from the Bartholin, nabothian, and skene’s glands, as well as from the vaginal epithelium (lining) itself. These glands and tissues function normally — your disc will not change or interfere with that in any way.
Want extra lubrication?
Extra moisture is never a bad thing. If you decide you want additional lubrication, we recommend using a water-based lube, which is compatible with both your disc and your body.
Yup! Feminy Reusable Disc is totally safe to use with water-based personal lubricants.
Whether you need a little lube to help make insertion easier, or you’re using your disc for mess-free period sex, you’re good to go.
Note: Avoid silicone-based lubricants, as they can potentially damage silicone material over time. Water-based lube is the safest choice.
Yes, with some awareness.
Feminy Reusable Disc was designed to be IUD-friendly — it does not rely on suction to stay in place (unlike menstrual cups, which create suction against the cervix or vaginal walls). This makes discs a great choice for IUD users, as they are less likely to accidentally pull on the IUD strings during removal.
Tips for IUD users:
- Know your strings. Before using any internal period product, feel for your IUD strings so you know where they are.
- Remove gently. Hook your finger under the rim and pull out slowly — don’t pinch or yank, which could catch the strings.
- Talk to your doctor. Consult with your healthcare provider or gynecologist before using a new period product with an IUD. They can give you specific advice based on your IUD type and position, and can trim the strings shorter if needed.
Important note:
There is a small risk of any internally worn menstrual product (tampons, discs, cups) catching on an IUD. However, discs — with no suction and no pinching during removal — are generally considered a safer reusable option for IUD users.
If you have any concerns, please reach out to us or speak with your healthcare provider.
feminy Disc
Yes! The majority of Feminy Reusable Disc users have heavy flows. We’ve heard from tons of customers with especially heavy periods who swear by the disc, thanks to its higher capacity and 12-hour (all day) wear.
How much can it hold?
Feminy Reusable Disc can hold up to 60 mL of fluid. That’s as much as 5+ super tampons!
Worried about leaks?
Don’t stress. When inserted correctly, Feminy Disc won’t leak.
How to extend wear time on heavy days?
Take advantage of the disc’s hands-free emptying feature: gently bear down with your pelvic floor muscles when using the bathroom. This will shift the disc’s position and allow a little fluid to release into the toilet. When done, simply use a clean finger to tuck your disc back into place behind your pubic bone.
Can it get lost?
No. At the end of your vaginal canal is the cervix (the opening to the uterus), and it won’t allow anything past it — except sperm. Your disc cannot get “lost” inside you.
If your disc feels small and seems out of reach, remember: it’s not going anywhere. Use your muscles to bear down (the same strain you use to poop) to work the disc low enough to reach. Once you can reach it, simply pull it out.
Will it fit my body?
Yes. Feminy Reusable Disc was designed to fit most vaginas.
When you pinch the disc to insert it, it’s about the same size as a tampon. Once in place, it warms and forms to your unique anatomy — helping to prevent leaks and prioritize comfort.
Yes, absolutely! Your disc is meant for this.
Feminy Reusable Disc can be safely worn for a maximum of 12 hours. This means you can wear it all night while you sleep — no need to empty it in the middle of the night.
Typical daily routine:
- Morning: Insert your disc and wear it all day
- Evening: Remove it in the shower, rinse it, and reinsert
- Night: Sleep comfortably with your disc inside
- Next morning: Remove over the toilet or in the shower, rinse, and reinsert
You repeat this process every day and night of your period. Remember, you can wear your disc for up to 12 hours before it needs to be fully removed, rinsed, and reinserted.
Feminy Reusable Disc is made of 100% medical-grade silicone and is designed to last for 2+ years with proper care. When it eventually reaches the end of its life, please do not flush it down the toilet.
Here are a few responsible ways to dispose of your old disc:
- Burn it – Medical-grade silicone can be safely burned until it turns to ash. This should be done in a controlled, safe outdoor setting (never indoors).
- Check for silicone recycling – Some specialty recycling programs accept medical-grade silicone. Search online for “silicone recycling” or check with local recycling centers in your area.
- Waste bin – If no other options are available, you can place your used disc in a regular waste bin. Wrap it in toilet paper or a small bag before disposing.
Important note:
Feminy Reusable Disc is designed to be washed and reworn for years. It should only be disposed of when it shows signs of wear (such as tears, stickiness, or loss of shape) or when you choose to replace it.
Teminy Reusable Disc is made of 100% medical-grade silicone.
This material is soft and flexible enough to fold and insert easily, yet firm enough to stay securely in place. It is designed specifically for use inside the human body.
Material safety:
- BPA-free
- Phthalate-free
- No natural rubber latex
- Hypoallergenic
- FDA compliant/cleared
Material features:
Medical-grade silicone is a biologically inert material that won’t host toxic bacteria or alter your vaginal pH. It warms to your body temperature and conforms to your unique anatomy, providing a comfortable, non-irritating experience.

It’s a game changer! We’re here to help !
Step 1: Wash your hands
Always wash your hands before insertion and removal. Also wash your Feminy Reusable Disc with warm water and a mild cleanser.
Step 2: Find a comfortable position
Some sit on the toilet, some stand with one leg elevated, some do a full squat. Experiment until you find what works best for you.
Step 3: Pinch and insert
Pinch the disc in half and begin inserting it into the vaginal canal. Make sure you push the edge that goes in first down and back (toward your tailbone) so that it sits at an angle and fully covers the cervix. Down and back is key!
Step 4: Tuck behind the pubic bone
Push the front rim up past your pubic bone as far as it can go. Think of bringing the front rim toward your belly button so the front of the disc sits higher than the back.
Step 5: Check the fit
You shouldn’t be able to feel the disc. If you can still feel it inside, remove it and try again.
A note of encouragement
When you’re first starting out, know that it’s normal to need a few tries before you’ve mastered insertion! Every body is different. The more comfortable you get with your body and with the disc, the easier it will be.
When inserted properly, Feminy Reusable Disc shouldn’t leak.
Seeing a little blood while using the bathroom is normal
If you see a little blood in the toilet or on your toilet paper when you pee or poop, this is completely normal.
Here’s why: when you relax your pelvic floor muscles to use the bathroom, the front rim of your disc may temporarily untuck from behind your pubic bone — allowing a small amount of fluid to release.
This is actually a feature, not a problem
This is one of our favorite features of using a menstrual disc! This technique is called “hands-free emptying” (some call it auto-dumping)
Benefits:.
- Helps you maximize wear time to the full 12 hours, even on your heaviest days
- No need to remove or change your disc
- After using the toilet, simply use a clean finger to tuck the front rim back behind your pubic bone
Summary:
- Properly inserted → No leaking
- Small release while using the bathroom → Normal — that’s hands-free emptying
- After using the bathroom → Tuck it back into place with your finger
When you first try a menstrual disc, removal can be a little tricky — you may get a little blood on your hand. But it gets easier with practice.
Most people choose to remove their disc at home over the toilet or in the shower, which makes the process comfortable and stress-free.
How to make removal cleaner?
- Remove in the shower – Warm water helps you relax, and any mess is contained
- Remove while sitting on the toilet – Keep the disc horizontal (parallel to the floor) and pull it out slowly
- Try hands-free emptying first – Gently bear down before removal to partially empty the disc
- Use wipes – Keep gentle wipes handy for easy cleanup when you’re on the go
Summary:
With a little practice, you can keep everything clean and mess-free. The more comfortable you get with your body and with the disc, the easier it will be.
Signs of correct insertion
You’ll know your Feminy Reusable Disc is inserted correctly when you don’t feel it internally. In other words, if you can go about your day without feeling the disc, you’re good to go!
Signs something might be off
If you experience any of the following, the disc may not be inserted correctly:
- You feel discomfort or pressure
- You experience lots of leakage (other than normal auto-dumping when using the bathroom)
- The disc may not be pushed far back enough, or the front rim may not be tucked behind your pubic bone
How to check and adjust
- Wash your hands
- Use a clean finger to try to push the disc down and back (toward your tailbone/floor) into the vaginal fornix
- Push the disc as far back as it will go
- Make sure to tuck the front rim up behind your pubic bone (think of pulling it toward your belly button)
- If you have no leaks and feel comfortable, you’re good to go!
feminy Reusable Disc
Feminy Reusable Disc is a body-safe and sustainable menstrual disc that provides all-day comfort and high capacity. It holds up to 60 mL of fluid — that’s as much as 5+ super tampons.
It was thoughtfully engineered to be as easy to insert and remove as a disposable disc — but it’s 100% reusable and lasts for years.
The lifespan of Feminy Reusable Disc depends on cleaning and care, but it can last for years.
As a general rule, we recommend replacing your disc every 2–3 years, or as soon as it begins to show any signs of deterioration.
Signs of deterioration that mean it’s time to replace
- Chalky or powdery surface
- Cracked material
- Sticky or tacky texture (no longer smooth)
- Persistent odor that doesn’t go away even after thorough cleaning
Note about discoloration:
Discoloration is normal and does not require replacement. Medical-grade silicone may become stained or discolored over time from contact with period blood. This is completely normal and does not affect the product’s function or safety.
Daily Cleaning (During Your Period)
Good care helps extend your disc’s lifespan and keeps it clean and fresh for years.
During your period, remove, empty, and clean your disc at least once every 12 hours:
- Wash your hands – Always use clean hands
- Rinse with cool water first – This helps prevent odor and staining of the medical-grade silicone
- Wash with warm water and mild cleanser – Add a few pumps of gentle cleanser
- Massage the entire surface – Including both sides of the rim and the catch
- Rinse thoroughly – Make sure all cleanser residue is removed
- Air dry – Shake off excess water and let it dry completely before reinserting
Storage Between Cycles
- Make sure the disc is completely dry before storing
- Store in the included pouch in a cool, dry place
- Never store in an airtight container (e.g., sealed jar, plastic bag)
Absolutely!
Feminy Reusable Disc makes your period experience in water completely worry-free. You can swim, take a bath, or soak in a hot tub without worrying about leaks or discomfort.
Activities you can enjoy with your disc:
- Swimming
- Bathing / hot tubs
- Showering
- Running / exercise
- Sleeping
- Period sex
Say goodbye to tampons and say hello to worry-free water activities! With Feminy Reusable Disc, enjoy a super comfortable period experience — both on land and underwater.
menstrual Cup
A menstrual cup is a reusable tampon alternative that collects blood rather than absorbing it. Menstrual cups are most often made from medical-grade silicone but can also be made from TPE.
They hold more than tampons, are non-porous, and are usually a more comfortable experience. A cup is folded and inserted into the vagina where it opens, creates a seal, and remains in place under the cervix.
Yes, absolutely safe. Feminy Cup is made from 100% medical-grade silicone with no added chemicals (no BPA), no latex, no dyes, and no plastics.
If properly cleansed and cared for, and there are no signs of deterioration (such as cracks, stickiness, or a chalky surface), your Feminy Cup is safe to use for years.
General guideline:
- Size Small (or Extra Small): For those under 30 years old who have not given birth
- Size Large: For those over 30 years old or who have given birth (either vaginally or by C-section)
These guidelines are helpful, but it’s important to note that you know your body best. Your activity level may mean a smaller diameter cup fits you better, even if you land in the “Size Large” category.
The most important factor: We believe that knowing your cervical height is the most important aspect of picking a cup (one based on length), since the vagina can stretch but cannot create more length.
For detailed instructions, please check our size chart.
Step 1: Wash hands & sterilize
- Always wash your hands thoroughly with warm water or a mild, pH-balanced cleanser
- Before first use, you must sterilize your cup. You can use a sterilizing tablet, sterilize in the microwave, or boil it on the stove
Tips for a cStep 2: Choose a folding method that suits youlean removal:

Step 3: Relax and find a comfortable position
It’s important to relax your muscles when inserting your cup. Try:
* Lying down * Squatting * Sitting on the toilet * Standing up
You’ll find the position that works best for you over time.
Step 4: Insert
Insert the folded cup. Once the entire cup (including the stem) is inside you, release your fingers and let it open up. Compared to a tampon, the cup should be placed lower in the vaginal canal.
Tip: You may want to use water or a water-based lubricant to make insertion easier.
Signs of correct insertion
- You might hear a “pop” or a suction sound — this means the cup has unfolded and created the necessary suction seal
- Reach in and feel around the base of the cup — it should feel round or oval without any noticeable folds
- Try to pull the stem a bit — if you feel resistance, the suction seal has been created and the cup is inserted correctly
If you feel any dents or folds
If you feel any dents or folds on the base of your cup and you’re not sure the suction seal has been created:
- Gently grip the base of the cup (not the stem)
- Rotate to make it unfold
- Try to pull the stem a bit — if you feel resistance, the suction seal has been created and the cup is inserted correctly
This depends on your flow:
- Light to Medium Flow: Empty every 8–12 hours
- Heavy Flow: Empty every 4–6 hours
A menstrual cup can hold up to three times more liquid than a super tampon! On average, you lose about 5–12 teaspoons of blood per period, so you may be surprised at how little you need to empty your cup.
Step 1: Wash your hands
Always wash your hands thoroughly with warm water or a mild, pH-balanced cleanser
Step 2: Relax and find a comfortable position
Sit on the toilet or stand up. Relax your pelvic floor muscles. Taking a few deep breaths helps.
Step 3: Break the suction seal
- Use a clean finger to gently pinch the base of the cup (not the stem) to break the suction seal
- Never pull the stem directly, as this may cause discomfort or injury
Step 4: Remove
Once the seal is broken, gently pull the cup downward. Keep it upright to prevent spills.
Step 5: Empty and clean
Empty the contents into the toilet. Rinse with cold water, then wash with warm water and a mild cleanser before reinserting or storing.
Yes! Cups do not inhibit any normal bodily functions (with the exception of sex, as noted above).
Whether you need to pee or poop, you can use the bathroom normally. If you find that your cup moves down after a bowel movement, simply nudge it gently back up into place.
Feminy Cup is designed with a firm, stable base — making it great for this situation, as it easily returns to its proper position and maintains a good seal.
Yes! Running (and any exercise) is great while wearing a cup.
If you are very active, you may prefer a firmer cup, as these stay in place better against any muscle contractions that occur while exercising.
Feminy Cup is designed with a firm, stable structure to meet the needs of active users. Whether you’re jogging, running a marathon, or doing high-intensity interval training, you can wear it with confidence.
A menstrual cup typically lasts 5 to 10 years. Our recommendation: Replace your cup only when it shows signs of deterioration, such as:
- Becoming chalky or powdery
- Cracked material
- Sticky or tacky texture
Note about discoloration:
A stained cup does not need to be replaced simply due to discoloration. Medical-grade silicone may become stained over time from contact with period blood — this is completely normal and does not affect the cup’s function or safety.
Daily Cleaning During Your Period (Every 8–12 Hours)
- Rinse with cold water: After removal, rinse your cup with cold water first. This prevents blood proteins from coagulating due to hot water, which helps avoid odors and staining.
- Clean the suction holes: Suction holes can trap blood. Fill the cup with water, seal the rim with your palm, and squeeze firmly to force water out through the holes.
- Use a gentle cleanser: Wash with a neutral, fragrance-free, oil-free soap or a cleanser specifically formulated for menstrual cups.
- In public restrooms: If you can’t rinse properly, carry a bottle of drinking water to rinse over the toilet, or wipe the cup with toilet paper and wash thoroughly when you get home.
Full Sanitization Before and After Your Period (Important):
- Boil to sanitize: Before and after each period, boil your cup in hot water for 5–10 minutes.
- Prevent contact with the pot bottom: To avoid the cup melting or deforming against the pot bottom, place it inside a metal whisk or ensure there’s enough water for it to float freely.
- Use sanitizing tablets: If boiling is not possible, use sanitizing tablets designed for baby products (e.g., Milton). Soak the cup in cold water for 15 minutes.
No. Boiling your cup is not necessary for normal use as long as you are properly washing your cup.
Regular cleaning (rinsing with cold water and washing with a mild, fragrance-free soap every 8–12 hours) is sufficient to keep your cup hygienic.
When should you boil your cup?
If you’ve had any sort of infection (such as a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis), you should sanitize your cup by boiling it before using it again — to prevent reintroducing the infection.
How do I sanitize my Feminy Cup?
- Before and after each period
- If you’ve had an infection (such as a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis) — sanitize before using again
Method 1: Boiling (Most Recommended)
- Bring a pot of water to a boil
- Place your cup in the boiling water for 5–10 minutes
- To prevent the cup from touching the bottom (which could cause deformation), place it inside a metal whisk or ensure enough water for it to float freely
- Remove and air dry completely
- The most thorough and traditional method
Method 2: Microwave Sterilization
- Place your cup in a microwave-safe sterilizer box or a microwave-safe container filled with water
- Heat on high for 2–3 minutes (follow your sterilizer box instructions)
- Let the container cool for a moment before removing
- Air dry completely
- Note: Never microwave an empty cup — this could damage it. Make sure the cup is fully submerged in water.
- Fast and convenient — great for regular sanitizing
Method 3: Soaking with Sanitizing Tablets
- Use sanitizing tablets designed for baby products (e.g., Milton)
- Dissolve a tablet in cold water
- Fully submerge your cup in the solution and soak for 15 minutes
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water and air dry completely
- No hot water or stove needed — perfect for travel or dorm life
Method 4: Steam Sterilization
- Use a steam sterilization bag or an electric steam sterilizer (e.g., microwave steam bag or baby bottle sterilizer)
- Add a small amount of water as directed by the product
- Place your cup inside the bag or sterilizer
- Microwave steam bag: Heat on high for 2–3 minutes | Electric sterilizer: Run a full cycle according to instructions
- Let the bag or container cool for a moment before removing
- Air dry completely
- Fast, effective, and gentle on your cup — great for daily sanitizing
A note of encouragement:
Whichever method you choose, make sure your cup is completely dry before storing. All three methods are safe and effective — pick the one that best fits your lifestyle.
If the cup is still usable but not working for you
You can look for swap/for sale groups (such as PACII Cup Swap or other menstrual cup communities) — someone else may want it. Make sure to thoroughly sanitize the cup before passing it on.
If the cup is old and needs replacing
- Burn it: You can burn the silicone cup until it turns to ashes (this is completely safe). Do this in a controlled, safe outdoor setting — never indoors.
- Silicone recycling: Look for a place that will recycle medical-grade silicone. Some brands (like Ruby Cup) accept old cups for recycling. You can also check with your local recycling centers.
Important note: Do not flush your old cup down the toilet — this can cause clogs and environmental issues.
Regular storage
Most brands include a small cotton pouch to store the cup in. Feminy Cup comes with a breathable storage pouch.
If you choose your own bag
- Make sure it is breathable for long-term storage
- PUL waterproof bags are okay for short stints (like in your purse when you’re out), but not recommended for long-term storage, as lack of breathability may cause odors or material degradation
Storage tips
- Make sure your cup is completely dry before storing
- Store in a cool, dry place
- Never store in an airtight container (e.g., sealed jar, plastic bag) — this can lead to bacterial growth or silicone deterioration
